I felt regularly supported knowing I was surrounded by members of the family of God. This provided extra encouragement, especially during difficult times, and was demonstrated through the behavior of the online faculty and program peers. SHU's online degree offering enabled me to complete my Master's while traveling globally on business.

I was hesitant to start a graduate degree program after having been out of school for over eight years even though it had always been a goal of mine. I was at a point in my Naval Officer career where I no longer felt challenged intellectually. While the Navy had afforded me many opportunities for service, mentorship and travel, I longed for a career that I was passionate about and knew that going back to school was the first step. As I researched universities online, I searched for schools which offered flexible programs geared towards non-traditional students because I was still on active duty. As an undergraduate, I attended Saint John's University in New York where I grew up and found that the Catholic traditions and Vincentian mission were two ideals which greatly influenced my life as a young adult and the choices I made both personally and academically, and I wanted the same from a graduate program of study. I wanted more than just a degree, and I found that at Sacred Heart University. From the application process to registering for courses and completing courses to receiving assistance with processing my financial aid documents, everything was efficient and the staff was always professional and courteous, taking a sincere interest in my success as student and a person. My professors were equally supportive; their academic acumen combined with their experience served as great learning tools, which made the distance learning aspect almost negligible. I feel blessed to have completed my Master of Science in Applied Psychology, and I am truly thankful for all the support and guidance I have received from my professors and student services coordinators over the past two years. Although I have never officially set foot on the Sacred Heart Campus, I never felt like I wasn't part of this dynamic network of academic professionals and support staff. Thank you for instilling in me a new sense of passion for service and the willingness to dedicate my life in service to others through my work.

This program has been great for me, especially due to its flexibility. You have to have a good degree of self-discipline in order to succeed in this program. The professors are great, the material you learn a lot. It is a short program, but it is very intensive. Overall, I’m very happy to be graduating today.

The best part of the program was the flexibility of being able to work and attend school at the same time. I was able to achieve my M.S. without having to abandon my job or go part time. I found the variety of classes offered through this program to be great - there is something for everyone and the program provides a solid base of knowledge that can be utilized in a variety of different professional situations.

The most beneficial part of the program for me, is the flexibility it provides by being in an online format. Although I live locally to the university, it would not be possible for me to take classes on campus at this point in my full-time career which sometimes requires late hours.

The superior instruction by the best professors! Each professor brings a significant amount of expertise and they are all willing to take the time out to instruct you individually, as the need arises. During my time at SHU I was very pleased that all of my concerns, albeit minor, were addressed in a timely manner, and on more than one occasion I received a personal phone call from the MSAP program director. In an online environment I wasn't convinced that you could feel that you were part of a community; SHU has changed that perception for me, and it was/is extremely evident that all of the staff members and professors are concerned about your success and well-being. Also, the curriculum is expansive and readily prepares you for the workforce, a change in career, or career advancement.

I have had numerous doors and opportunities open for me just because I have a masters degree. Lastly, the best thing about attending SHU is that the academic rigor and reputation is one that you can be proud of: Once a Pioneer, Always a Pioneer!
