According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the outlook for RNs, and especially those with advanced degrees, is excellent-- employment is expected to grow 22 percent from 2008 to 2018*. The greatest areas of growth are projected to be in physicians’ offices, home health care, and long-term rehabilitation and care facilities, many of which will require RNs with high-level expertise to handle complex tasks and planning.
The health care industry's increasing focus on the need for quality, cost-effective care among vulnerable and underserved populations will make the advanced clinical and administrative skills offered in the Clinical Nurse Leader and Patient Care Services Administration specializations of great value in the job marketplace. In addition, the Department of Veterans Affairs is actively promoting the Clinical Nurse Leader position at its hospitals.
