Additional Requirements
  • Résumé.
  • Two letters of recommendation: One must be from an academic source and one must be from an employer or volunteer supervisor and be no older than two years; We do not accept letters of recommendation from family or friends.
  • Video conference interview with faculty.
  • Respond to Personal Statement form questions.
  • Completion of a state-specific acknowledgment form while in a conversation with the school counseling program director.

• Be available for two (2) week-long, in-person residencies at SHU.

International Students

At Sacred Heart University, we welcome students from all around the world. If you are an international student and are interested in enrolling in the online Master of Arts in School Counseling, you are required to submit the items listed above, as well as the following:

Course EvaluationA course-by-course evaluation (and a translation, if applicable) from an acceptable transcript evaluation services agency, such as World Education Services.
TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB scoresIf English is not your native language, you need a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT) or 70 (iBT). Or, a minimum IELTS score of 6.

If you are unable to provide proof of English language proficiency, Sacred Heart University can administer an online English proficiency test for you. Also, please note that international students on an F-1 student visa are not permitted to enroll in online programs.

Transfer Credit

Up to 12 credits may be transferred with university approval. To find out whether or not your credits are eligible, request more information or call us at 877-791-7181. Requests for courses to be transferred for credit toward a graduate degree are reviewed upon request by the applicant during their first term in the program. Such work must represent graduate-level courses relevant to the Master of Arts in School Counseling at Sacred Heart University being sought, with course content and level of instruction resulting in applicant competencies at least equivalent to those of currently enrolled students in our MA in School Counseling.
